NEAFC Performance Review

The 27th session of the Committee on Fisheries of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO,  took place between 5 - 9 March 2007 at FAO Headquarters in Rome.

One of the agenda items was " Strengthening Regional Fishery Management Organizations (RFMOs) and their performances". This calls for all RFMOs to undertake performance reviews.

To date, NEAFC is the only RFMO that has undertaken such a review and is acting on it (see report of the Working Group on the Future of NEAFC). The process in NEAFC attracted much attention and was referred to by NEAFC Contracting Parties and others at the meeting and at side events. The update from the Working Group on the Future of NEAFC was circulated and the NEAFC Secretariat made a statement.
